Investigators are working to piece together all of the details of a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred in Huntington Beach Saturday.

49-year-old John Diaz was struck by a pickup truck in the evening just minutes before 7 p.m.

The incident took place on Slater Avenue on December 31st.

Diaz was attempting to cross the street when the Chevrolet Silverado hit him.

Sadly, despite life-saving measures, the man died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

California has the highest pedestrian fatality rate which is 25% higher than the national average.
