Sacramento Crash Injures Family; Suspect Arrested
Circle Parkway Home Crash in Sacramento Seriously Injures Eric Adversalo and His Sons; 19-Year-Old Suspect Arrested After Police Pursuit
Overview of the Incident
On Sunday night, October 26, 2025, a stolen vehicle being pursued by law enforcement crashed into a home near the 7300 block of Circle Parkway in Sacramento. According to initial reports, the vehicle slammed into the front of the residence where Eric Adversalo and his two sons, Nicolas and Xavier, were inside. The impact caused significant structural damage and left all three victims trapped.
Emergency responders found Mr. Adversalo pinned beneath the vehicle. He sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently unable to breathe without assistance. Nicolas and Xavier were reportedly trapped against a wall and under a refrigerator and were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The Sacramento Police Department identified the suspect driver as 19-year-old Tashawn Dorrough of Sacramento County. The crash rendered the home uninhabitable, forcing the family to relocate while repairs and recovery proceed.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash and the circumstances surrounding the pursuit. Any criminal charges will proceed separately from the civil process that allows injured victims to pursue compensation for their losses.
Understanding Liability After a Police-Pursuit Crash
When a driver flees police and causes a crash, that driver can be held civilly liable for the injuries and damages that result. In cases involving stolen vehicles, liability typically rests with the at-fault driver rather than the vehicle’s owner—unless there is evidence of separate negligence by the owner, such as leaving keys in the ignition or otherwise facilitating the theft. Each case turns on its facts and available evidence.
Victims may also be entitled to restitution through the criminal case against the driver. Restitution can help but is often limited and does not replace a full civil recovery. In particularly egregious circumstances—such as willful or reckless conduct—California law may allow for punitive damages designed to punish and deter such behavior, subject to the evidence and court approval.
Claims potentially involving public entities (for example, when a claim is asserted against a governmental agency for the manner in which a pursuit was conducted) carry unique rules and tight deadlines. Government tort claims typically must be filed within six months of the incident. Whether a public entity bears any civil responsibility depends on complex legal standards, including pursuit policies and statutory immunities. An experienced attorney can evaluate these issues based on the specific facts.
Insurance Pathways and Compensation Options
Insurance coverage can be complicated in stolen-vehicle crashes, but multiple avenues may be available:
- At-fault driver’s liability insurance: If applicable, this is the primary source of compensation. In stolen-vehicle cases, the driver may be uninsured or underinsured.
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM): Injured victims may access their own auto policy’s UM/UIM coverage when the at-fault driver has no insurance or insufficient limits.
- Medical payments (MedPay): Some auto policies include MedPay coverage that can help with immediate medical expenses regardless of fault.
- Homeowners or renters insurance: Property damage to the home, personal belongings, and expenses related to relocation may be covered. Additional living expenses (ALE) can help pay for temporary housing and related costs while the home is repaired.
- Health insurance: Health coverage can pay for medical treatment, though insurers may assert reimbursement rights from any settlement.
