Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision on Pacific Coast Highway Near Point Mugu; Investigation Ongoing

A 29-year-old man from Oxnard was tragically killed in a multi-vehicle collision on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) near Point Mugu in Ventura County on Friday night, October 3, 2025. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), officers received reports shortly after 10:00 p.m. of a major crash blocking lanes. First responders located the victim on the ground; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision involved three vehicles: a Hyundai Elantra driven by the 29-year-old decedent, a southbound Acura TSX driven by a 23-year-old man, and a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 38-year-old woman. Preliminary information indicates the Hyundai crossed into the southbound lane and struck the Acura. Following the initial impact, the Tahoe then struck the Acura. The 23-year-old sustained major injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center. The 38-year-old driver was not injured. Authorities reported that alcohol and drugs were ruled out as factors, no arrests were made, and the investigation remains active.

This crash underscores the dangers of head-on and chain-reaction collisions on coastal corridors like PCH, where visibility, roadway geometry, and traffic speeds can converge to create high-severity impacts. Our thoughts are with the families and all those affected as officials work to determine the full sequence of events and contributing factors.

What We Know and What Investigators Often Examine

While CHP continues its investigation, collisions of this type are often reconstructed through multiple evidence sources, including:

- Physical evidence: skid and yaw marks, debris fields, vehicle rest positions, roadway gouges, and guardrail impacts
- Vehicle data: event data recorders (EDRs) that may capture pre-impact speed, braking, throttle, and seatbelt usage
- Witness statements: accounts from involved drivers, passengers, and bystanders to clarify time, direction, and driver actions
- Environmental conditions: nighttime visibility, roadway lighting, lane markings, curve geometry, shoulder width, and any signage
- Weather
