A devastating collision between a big rig and a passenger vehicle on Highway 99 in Kingsburg resulted in the death of one individual and left another with injuries serious enough to require emergency air transport to a nearby hospital. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is actively investigating the crash, which occurred Thursday evening and caused major disruptions to freeway traffic.The accident was first reported at approximately 6:18 p.m. near Avenue 384 along Highway 99, a heavily traveled corridor in Fresno County. According to CHP officials, the crash involved a blue Honda Civic and a semi-truck. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain unclear, and investigators have not yet released a preliminary cause.Emergency crews from the Kingsburg Fire Department were among the first to arrive on scene. Upon arrival, they discovered the semi-truck driver unconscious inside the vehicle. The driver of the Honda Civic reportedly sustained only minor injuries, though the specifics of their condition have not been disclosed.Due to the severity of the incident and the need for immediate medical intervention, authorities shut down multiple lanes of Highway 99 to allow an emergency medical helicopter to land. One person was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Sadly, another individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the deceased and the injured have not been released pending notification of family members.The roadway remained closed for approximately two hours as first responders secured the scene, conducted initial investigations, and cleared the damaged vehicles.
