A fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident claimed the life of 37-year-old Yesenia Sanchez.
The incident occurred in Pico Rivera around 11:30 p.m.
It was reported that three woman had just left an event at Pico Rivera Sports Center.
Sanchez was struck on Rooks Road and unfortunately died at the scene. Another woman was hospitalized with major injuries and the third woman was left uninjured.
Authorities are still in search of the driver who fled the scene.
California has the highest pedestrian fatality rate which is 25% higher than the national average.
Additionally, 20% of pedestrian deaths include fleeing drivers and pedestrians and bicyclists are 68% more likely to be killed in hit-and-run accidents.
