58-year-old Dennis Eric Byrd fell victim to a hit-and-run crash in Bakersfield last Friday night.
The tragic accident took place around 10:25 p.m. on Highway 178.
Byrd was reportedly struck by a hit-and-run driver as he was walking in its path. Due to the impact, the victim then landed in the path of three other vehicles.
Only one of the drivers remained at the scene. Two others left but returned shortly after.
An active investigation remains underway.
