Sarah Kannel, originally from Long Beach, California, has not only excelled academically and professionally at Texas Tech School of Law but also stood out with an exceptional essay detailing the profound benefits of being an attorney.
Sarah’s journey from Long Beach to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, is a tale of ambition and drive. Her transition to Texas 2.5 years ago marked the beginning of a legal journey punctuated by leadership, service, and advocacy. As President of the Black Law Student Association and Vice President of the National Lawyers Guild, Sarah has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to legal excellence and community upliftment.
Her role as a tutor for Civil Procedure and Constitutional Law showcases her dedication to supporting her peers academically. Beyond the classroom, Sarah’s active participation in the Caprock Regional Public Defender Clinic as a 3L has provided her with hands-on experience in defending clients, with 13 criminal defendant clients and 10 closed cases to her name.
What particularly distinguished Sarah in this year’s scholarship was her outstanding essay on the benefits of an attorney.
