Two vehicles collided head-on in Merced on Wednesday, January 11th.
The crash resulted in the death of 44-year-old Stacy Wiley.
According to reports, Wiley was traveling south in a Dodge Caliber when a northbound Honda Accord lost control and drifted into opposing traffic.
The two vehicles crashed head-on just after 3:30 p.m. and caused the Dodge to overturn.
Wiley was airlifted to Doctor’s Medical Center with sever injuries where she later died.
In addition, the driver along with its two passengers of the Honda suffered only minor injuries.
An active investigation remains underway.
While head-on collisions account for just 2% of all motor-vehicle accidents, they make up 10% of all fatal accidents.
These types of crashes are most common on two-lane highways and more than half result in a fatality.
