A tragic collision on Tuesday night claimed the life of a driver following a crash involving a construction vehicle on Highway 99 in Tulare, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred on the southbound lanes of Highway 99 near Bardsley Avenue. Authorities say a minivan was traveling south when, for reasons still under investigation, it collided with a construction vehicle that was subcontracted by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
Emergency responders arrived on the scene and found both drivers injured. The minivan driver, whose identity has not yet been released pending family notification, was transported to Adventist Health Tulare. Despite efforts by medical personnel, the driver succumbed to their injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver of the construction vehicle sustained only minor injuries and did not require hospitalization, according to officials.
The collision resulted in a temporary closure of parts of Highway 99 as investigators from CHP worked to process the scene. Authorities have not yet released information on contributing factors, such as road conditions, visibility, or speed. It is also unclear whether construction signage or lighting played any role in the crash.
The investigation remains active, and anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol’s Central Division.
