CHP reported a fatal traffic accident in Chico on Tuesday afternoon.
At around 3 p.m., two vehicles collided on Highway 99.
Chris Larges was driving a pickup truck within the northbound lanes when a sedan, in the same lane, drifted into opposing traffic.
This caused the sedan to slam into the left side of a southbound big rig.
As a result, the big rig’s axle fell off and went into the northbound lanes, which caused it to hit the pickup truck driven by Larges.
His vehicle rolled over multiple times and landed on the right shoulder.
The axle then went back into the southbound lanes and hit a Honda sedan.
Both the driver of the big rig and Larges suffered moderate injuries.
Unfortunately, the driver of the sedan, a 52-year-old woman, was rushed to the hospital where she died.
An active investigation remains underway.
