The sudden demise of Laura Yazmin Martinez has left the entire community of Ysidro in shock. The 35-year-old Martinez passed away in a fatal pedestrian accident on Smythe Avenue, San Ysidro, on April 3rd at around 9:15 pm. The accident was reported by the San Diego Union Tribune.
Reportedly, Martinez was crossing the street when a 21-year-old driver in a 2006 BMW X3 hit her. Although the driver rushed her to the nearest hospital, Martinez succumbed to her injuries and passed away.
This unfortunate incident has left Martinez’s family, friends, and community devastated. Her friends and family have created a fundraiser to help cover her funeral expenses and support her family during this difficult time.
Pedestrian accidents are not uncommon in San Ysidro, and this incident has shed light on the importance of pedestrian safety. The Avian Law Group urges drivers to be cautious, especially when driving in areas where pedestrians frequently cross.
According to the National Safety Council, around 6,283 pedestrians died in traffic accidents in 2018. It is shocking how many people die or are severely injured every year due to collisions between vehicles and pedestrians, which are often preventable.
Pedestrians and drivers alike should always be aware of each other’s presence on the road. Pedestrians should use crosswalks where available when crossing the street, and drivers should reduce their speed and be prepared to stop if they see a pedestrian approaching.
The Avian Law Group understands the pain and suffering that comes with losing a loved one. Our hearts go out to Martinez’s friends and family during this difficult time. We urge all drivers to remain vigilant and cautious on the roads and remind pedestrians to stay aware of their surroundings.
